Transforming Agrifood Systems in the MENA Region: Challenges, Strategies and Pathways to Sustainability
2 July 2026
MENA2050 is proud to present its new white paper, Transforming Agrifood Systems in the MENA Region: Challenges, Strategies and Pathways to Sustainability, developed by the MENA2050 Food Systems Committee, led by its Chairwoman, Dr. Lee Recht.
While the Middle East and North Africa is often viewed through the lens of conflict, energy, and geopolitics, agrifood systems remain one of the region’s most urgent yet overlooked priorities. They are closely linked to water scarcity, climate resilience, food security, import dependency, public health, economic diversification, youth employment, and long-term regional stability.
This first-of-its-kind regional publication offers a comprehensive perspective on agrifood systems across MENA, framing them as both a shared regional challenge and a major opportunity for sustainable development, cooperation, and resilience.
